Great British Insulation Scheme 2025 Update

The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) has undergone several important changes for 2025. Here's what homeowners need to know about the expanded program and how to benefit.

The GBIS, formerly known as ECO+, was introduced to help middle-income households improve their home's energy efficiency through insulation measures. The scheme has now been expanded to reach even more homes across the UK.

Key Updates for 2025

Several significant changes have been announced for the GBIS in 2025:

  1. Expanded Eligibility: The scheme now covers homes with EPC ratings D-G (previously mostly E-G), bringing millions more properties into eligibility.
  2. Increased Funding: The government has allocated an additional Β£1.2 billion to the scheme through 2026, allowing for more homes to benefit.
  3. Additional Measures: While cavity wall and loft insulation remain the primary focus, the updated scheme now includes underfloor insulation and draught-proofing in certain cases.

Who Can Now Benefit?

The eligibility criteria have been broadened to include:

  • Homes with EPC ratings of D, E, F, or G
  • Properties in council tax bands A-D in England
  • Properties in council tax bands A-E in Scotland and Wales
  • Both homeowners and private renters (with landlord permission)

Importantly, you do not need to be receiving benefits to qualify for the GBIS – it's available to households across all income levels, provided the property meets the criteria above.

Available Measures Under GBIS

The scheme primarily covers:

  • Cavity Wall Insulation: For homes with unfilled cavity walls (typically built after 1920)
  • Loft Insulation: For uninsulated or under-insulated loft spaces
  • Underfloor Insulation: Now included for certain properties where significant heat loss occurs through floors
  • Draught-proofing: In some cases, as a supplementary measure

The entire cost of these improvements is covered by the scheme – there's no upfront payment required from eligible households.

The Application Process

The process for applying for GBIS funding remains straightforward:

  1. Check your eligibility (using our online form or by calling us)
  2. Arrange a free home survey to confirm suitability
  3. Schedule installation with our team of accredited professionals
  4. Enjoy a warmer home and lower energy bills

Why Act Now?

While the scheme has been extended, funding is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis until targets are met. With energy prices remaining high, there's never been a better time to improve your home's insulation.

The average household with new insulation saves between Β£300-Β£600 per year on energy bills, depending on the property and measures installed.
