What is the Great British Insulation Scheme?
The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) is a government initiative (launched 2023) to help more households insulate their homes.
Unlike ECO4's whole-house approach, GBIS mainly covers single insulation measures. It's designed to include households who might not qualify for ECO4. We've completed over 2,000 jobs helping homeowners access these schemes.
Eligibility Criteria
The GBIS has broader eligibility criteria than ECO4:
- Homes with EPC rating of D, E, F or G
- In England: Council tax band A-D
- In Scotland/Wales: Council tax band A-E
- If you are on benefits, you're likely covered by ECO4 – but GBIS picks up people who may not be on benefits
Available Measures Under GBIS
Cavity Wall Insulation
Fills the gap between the two layers of your external walls with insulating material, preventing heat from escaping. This can save up to £275 per year on energy bills.
Loft Insulation
Adds insulating material to your loft space to prevent heat loss through the roof. Up to 25% of heat can be lost through an uninsulated roof. This can save approximately £300 per year.
Other Insulation Measures
In some cases, other types of insulation such as solid wall or room in roof insulation may be available. Our qualified energy assessor will advise on the best options for your home.
